I got all the pictures in this morning, I think something was up with the internet last night, couldn't get into anything. :(

This morning we went to Astoria, Oregon. It's about a 1/2 hour away from Seaside where a lot of big movies have been made. We stopped to pick some coffee from Starbuck's, (yes I've got Shawn hooked!! and he's also drinking red wine and enjoying it), then hit the road. We went to see the Astoria Column (kind of looks like a lighthouse) which is a monument to commemorate some historical events and is 125 feet tall. There are scenes (about the historic events) engraved in the concrete that swirl all the way up to the top and the names of the different explorers that made the history etched at the top. I climbed the 164 steps up the spiral staircase, Shawn waited down at the bottom. The view is beautiful at the top of the hill where this is situated, but once you get up to the top, there is nothing blocking your view, but is it ever windy. On the way back down into downtown Astoria, you would think we were in San Fransico, the streets are hilly like San Fransico, you really need to know your breaks are working. When we were on our way to the column  there was long, huge bridge. Right away, Shawn says, we're not going over that bridge because of the huge span across, it looks like it's at least a mile, the uncertainty of not having land on each side terrifies him. When I looked at the map later, I told him that's the way we have to go tomorrow to drive to Seattle, so you're going to have to just suck it up and close your eyes while we're crossing.

Then we went to see the house where the Goonies movie was set, Leigh-Ann would love this part, she loves the movie. It's someones private home now, but they allow you to come up their driveway to take pictures. When I look back on the internet to see how it looked in the movie, it has changed quiet a bit. Apparently, when the person bought it, it was in receivership, the ceilings were falling down due to the rain coming in and they had to clear out the rats. It's quite beautiful now. I never realized that The Goonies was made by Steven Spielberg.

We went to a fish cannery, Bumble Bee Cannery, Shawn found this very interesting and it was used up into the 70's. The map showed that it was a place where seal lions come, thats why we went there but didn't see any. We came back to Seaside, did some shopping, had supper then scoured the beach for seashells. Lots of broken shells, but not to many whole ones, but I'll take those too. I love the pinky/purple colours inside and they look really pretty in a clear glass container.

Tomorrow we're off to Vancouver to see Kim and Brian. We're going to stop in Seattle to do some shopping at one of premium outlet malls and hopefully at Pike's Market also. Maybe we'll be able to see the Boeing plant in Everett, Washington. Hopefully we'll be in Vancouver by supper hour, sometimes our days get a little long from all our sight seeing, but thats what it's all about! :)

We definitely want to come back to Seaside someday, so busy yet peaceful. I really loved Seaside!
